Founded in 1863, amid the expansion of London’s Victorian clubland, The Arts Club brought together figures from art, literature and science in a shared social world. Early members included James McNeill Whistler, while Franz Liszt, Edgar Degas, Auguste Rodin and Mark Twain were among its honorary foreign members.
