Founded in 1921 by Louis Moyses, Le Bœuf sur le Toit grew out of the artistic circle surrounding pianist and composer Jean Wiéner at La Gaya. It became a celebrated meeting place of interwar Paris, drawing figures including Jean Cocteau, Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker, Serge Diaghilev and Maurice Ravel.
